Fine Arts

School Plays

Every other year, Heritage performs a major classic production. Click on the images below to see trailers from previous plays.

Art

Grades K – 6 each have an art class once a week that teaches basic concepts of line, space, form, texture, and color. Younger grades also complete projects that feature upcoming holidays or special days. Art is offered as an elective for grades 8-12. Projects range from pencil and ink drawings to yarn puppets and sculptures.

BCSO Competition

Jr. High & High School

BCSO stands for Buckeye Christian School Organization. But to Heritage junior high and high school students, BCSO stands for the state fine arts competition held every year in March. This is one of the major student events of the year. Students spend a night in a hotel and participate in two days of competition. There are art, photography, woodworking, metalworking, home etc., speech, preaching, quizzing, instrumental, and vocal categories.

The evening in the hotel is fun, but it is also time for final preparations for the next day’s competition. Actors may be in the stairwell rehearsing their scene. A reader’s theatre group may be in someone’s room going over their lines. A music group may be singing in the hotel lobby. Students compete from 9:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening. Most are exhausted and ready for a good night’s sleep.

Heritage has placed in the top three in this competition each of the last eleven years.

Elementary

In early May, elementary students compete in a state music, spelling, quizzing, and speech competition.  This is a new event for our school.  Students have done well in the competition these first two years.

Music Festival

HCS participates in a music festival that gives our 7th-12th grade students an outlet to collaborate with students from other schools instead of compete. Band and choir students from BCSO schools are invited to participate in this one-day event, which gives them the opportunity to sing in a large choir (100+) or play in a larger band (40+ students). Guest clinicians work with our students throughout the day preparing the music that they will perform in the evening concert. The concert is free and open to all friends and family.
